Dental Checkups & Cleanings in Maspeth

woman having smile checkedAt Maspeth Dental, our dedication to providing dental care that goes above and beyond starts with an in-depth check-up and cleaning twice a year. The American Dental Association recommends regular dental care every six months in order to maintain the optimal level of oral health. If it’s time for your dental checkup, we invite you to visit Dr. Lorber and his team. Our patient-centered appointments include:

  • Diagnostics – Using high-definition, low radiation digital X-rays, we are able to diagnose dental decay, developmental concerns, and more at the earliest stages possible.
  • Evaluation – We use an intraoral camera to capture images of your smile from the “dentist-eye-view.” As we examine your teeth, measure your gums, and perform visual examinations of your soft tissues, you can view any areas of concern along with us. In addition to checking for decay and gum disease, we also screen your smile for signs of bruxism (tooth grinding and clenching), temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder, and oral cancer.
  • Cleaning – Once we’ve thoroughly examined your smile, our skilled hygienists systematically remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from every surface of your teeth, polish them for that “squeaky clean” feeling, and offer demonstrations and recommendations for improving your at-home routine.
  • Consultation – the best part of every dental checkup is getting the opportunity to sit down and talk to our patients. We take the time to address your concerns and make sure you’re comfortable with any treatments we recommend.

Dental Checkups and Cleanings FAQs

Visiting the dentist can make many people nervous, especially if they’re not exactly sure what to expect. At Maspeth Dental, we want all of our patients to feel fully comfortable from the moment they step through our doors. That’s why we’ve included the answers to some of the most common questions we get about dental checkups and cleanings. However, if you don’t find what you’re looking for on this page, don’t hesitate to reach out to us and ask!

How Much Do Dental Checkups and Cleanings Cost?

Dental checkups and cleanings are generally very budget-friendly. In fact, the vast majority of dental insurance policies cover the cost of these visits with little or even no copay. That’s because dental insurance typically prioritizes preventive care above all else. They encourage you to attend your routine checkups and cleanings so that you can avoid the need for pricey treatments down the road.

Even if you don’t have dental insurance, know that checkups and cleanings shouldn’t be expensive in the slightest. In fact, these appointments can save you from higher dental bills later on. For example, a routine checkup allows us to diagnose and treat a cavity when all it needs is a filling. If you were to wait until that tooth started hurting, it might require a costlier treatment like a root canal. That said, the cost of dental checkups and cleanings is always worth it.

Do Teeth Cleanings Hurt?

Dental cleanings should not cause any pain. Our team will do our utmost to make sure you’re comfortable in the dental chair. You may feel some slight pressure as the hygienist scrapes plaque from your teeth (especially if you routinely experience tooth sensitivity), but you shouldn’t feel outright pain.

How Long Do Dental Checkups and Cleanings Take?

The length of your appointment can vary, but for most patients, they usually take between 45 and 90 minutes. You should plan on staying here for the full hour and a half just to be on the safe side.

Are Dental X-Rays Safe?

Dental X-rays have always been safe, but advancements in dental technology have made them even safer than they used to be. We use the latest digital X-rays to get a closer look at your oral structures and diagnose problems. These X-rays create a much clearer image faster than traditional X-rays did and display them on a chairside monitor. That way, you can see exactly what we see. Plus, digital X-rays emit significantly less radiation than traditional ones, making them much safer for you, your loved ones, and the environment.
